intellectual property

Pick any global governance issue (forced migration, intellectual property
rights, child labor, debt, etc.) of your choice (except SC Reform).
• You should avoid excessively broad issues. The issue should be narrow
enough so that it can be covered in a short analysis.
• Ex: “Human rights” is too broad, but “political rights” or “economic rights” is
narrow enough. “Development” is too broad, but “debt” or “health policies”
is narrow enough.
• Office hours Thursday afternoon if you need any help to pick an issue. Also
feel free to email me Friday or during the week-end. You should pick an issue
as fast as possible.Case Study
• The objective of the case study is to provide an overview and a
critical analysis of the issue that you have chosen.
• It should be based on the framework developed in lecture #9:
“Legitimacy and Accountability in Global governance.”
• The case study needs to address three questions:
1) What are the main actors and governance processes that seek to
address this issue?
• The objective is to map the governance around this issue: Who does what, and
how?
• Mainly descriptive
• You are strongly encouraged to use figures and chartsCase Study
2) What are the mechanisms of accountability in these processes?
• Analysis: accountability between stakeholders (persons affected) and decisionmaking/implementation.
• You should come to a broad conclusion on how accountable/legitimate is the
governance over the issue chosen.
3) How could the governance of this issue be improved?
• Based on your analysis, how could the governance be made more
accountable/legitimate?
• Use at least 5 quality references (academic, reports from international
organizations, newspapers, etc.)
• Evaluation based on:
1) Quality of research
2) The clarity of the overview
3) The clarity of the analysis
4) Originality
