Instructions
Partially started the essay but can no longer finish it

first journey to Nubia
Harkhuf, said to be just a youth, was sent by Pharoah Mernera on an expedition with his father in order to bring back goods from Nubia. Harkhuf opened new trade routes to a place called Yertjet. It is also said that he was sent to give gifts to the Nubian king. Egypt had a big interest in Nubia because it was rich in gold. Nubia also traded goods with Africa which meant they had things that people from Egypt had most likely never seen or even heard of before. Harkuf was to be accompanied by his father Ara who was a priest and also knew the way to Nubia. The journey took them 8 months. They brought back many kinds of valuable goods such as incense, ebony, oils, panther skins, elephant’s tusks, and throw sticks in exchange for wine, cake, bread, and beer.
Another goal of Harkuf’s expedition was to show the way to Nubia. The way in which Harkuf was rewarded shows how much his expeditions where appreciated. Nearly no one from Egypt had ever been to Nubia or any northern lands before.
