Survey passages where Jesus talks about his death, leading up to the crucifixion narrative;
Analyze the crucifixion narrative for how it portrays the death of Jesus;
Be sure to use (and cite!) the commentary textbook to guide your reading;
Does Mark’s portrayal of Christ’s suffering comport to traditional or popular notions of what the cross means?
Discuss the ending of Mark’s Gospel (16:1-8), with particular attention to the following questions:
the validity of the evidence offered by Mark for the resurrection of Jesus;
whether or not this passage makes an effective ending for the Gospel as a whole;
Mark’s probable understanding of the implications of the resurrection of Jesus for his followers.
