Question:
Historians argue about the true meaning of the Civil War in American history. The Civil War prevented the breakup on the United States, preserving the Union. But the Civil War also abolished the institution of slavery in the United States.
Is the Civil War best understood as a war to preserve the union? or a war to abolish slavery?
In your answer be sure to use specific evidence and examples to support your argument and defend your position. Consider the reasons why war broke out, motives for fighting, how the war was fought, and the different outcomes of the war.
For full credit your paper must:
– Be a minimum of 2.5 pages
– Double spaced, size 12 font, 1 inch margins
