Comparing/contrasting two methods of escape (relaxation) and how they are surprisingly similar or different
INSTRUCTIONS:
What is it?
This type of essay requires, as Mosaics notes, “two items that have something in common”; in fact, “[t]his is the basic rule underlying…a good comparison / contrast essay.”
Your specific topic is as follows:
Write an essay comparing and contrasting two methods of escape and relaxation. How are they alike? How are they different? Decide what point you want to make before you start writing. Then spend some time choosing and organizing your topics and deciding on your method of organization…Form a clear thesis statement, and follow the guidelines [below] for writing a comparison/contrast essay.
How do I write it?
Follow these guidelines:
1. Decide what point you want to make with your comparison, and state it in your thesis statement.
2. Choose items to compare and contrast that will make your point most effectively.
3. Use as many specific details and examples as possible to expand your comparison.
4. Develop your comparison in a balanced way.
5. Organize your essay subject by subject or point by point.

No: you are to build your argument exclusively evidence of your own.
When is it due?
Your final draft will be due
in the drop box by 11:59 PM Sunday 09 February
Do I have to hand in anything with my final draft?
Yes. You’ll need to include two files in addition to your essay, as follows:
(1) “Cover Sheet for Essays.” This file is in the course materials folder (under “Content”) on D2L. Please answer the questions as completely as you can.
(2) “Essay 02 Grading Rubric / Self-Assessment.” You’ll find this in the folder with the other materials for Essay 02. The rubric is for you to fill out; you may check the boxes, or highlight or change the font color (e.g., green for yes, red for no), or even just answer “yes” or “no” to the questions.
