Directions:
1. Read the following essays from the course textbook:

Sedaris “Me Talk Pretty One Day” pp. 301-306

Manjoo ” No, I Do Not Want to Pet Your Dog” pp.313-317

2. Review the strategies on reading critically from this week’s lecture notes.

3. Create two, developed paragraphs and in third person a critical reading of both essays (one paragraph for each reading). Be sure to state the author and title when composing your response. Pay close attention to each author’s argument and main points.

4. Be sure to answer the following for each reading:

What is the author’s purpose for writing the piece?

How well is the author presenting their material?

Who is the intended audience?

What are some examples of diction and tone in the essay
