An artist profile of at least 500 words must be submitted on the last day of class, May 11 (for graduating seniors May 4). The paper should be double spaced using no larger than a 12 point font, with no more than 1-inch margins. The paper should have a cover sheet with the title of the paper, the student’s name, the class and section, weekly meeting days, and date. Students must propose the subject/artist who is to be the topic of their papers no later than March 9 by submitting a brief (one paragraph) description of why the particular artist was selected. If a student proposes one of the artists on the list of “Sculptors to Research” below, the choice will automatically be approved. The paper should be submitted in two forms: 1.) Send a “Word” version or “Word” attachment and 2.) Deliver a hard copy on the last day of class, May 11 (May 4 for graduating seniors).
The paper should include:
1. A biography of the artist
2. A description of the era/period of art during which the artist worked
3. A description of the movement(s) or school of art with which the artist is associated and
how the artist fit into or contributed to that/those movement(s)
4. An analysis of the artist’s technique describing materials used and methodology.
5. Describe the philosophic, literary, religious, political, and/or aesthetic motivations of the
artist (i.e., what was the artist trying to achieve or say)
6. Contrast how the artist’s work differed when using different media.
