Yin and Yang

Explain the meaning of the terms yin and yang. What are the basic meanings of the two terms? And why is awareness of these aspects of the world important in Chinese religions generally? Why should any of us care about yin and yang? Also say what awareness of yin and yang implies for how we live our lives (i.e., how should our activity as individuals and socially reflect this awareness?
